The process
A clear road from first sketch to front door.
Building here should be one of the best things you ever do. This is how we keep it that way: five steps, no mysteries, and a door that’s always open.
Step 01
The first conversation
Coffee, your land or your plans on the table, and straight talk about what's possible. No obligation, no pressure, just an honest read on your build from people who do this every day.

Step 02
Design + pricing, together
We work beside your architect, or help you find the right one, and price as the drawings develop, so the number and the design arrive together. Nothing about your build should ever be a surprise, including the cost.

Step 03
Consent, handled
QLDC consent, engineering, and the paperwork of building in an alpine district, carried by us, tracked openly, explained in plain English whenever you want the detail.

Step 04
The build
A tight local crew, one point of contact, and a site you're always welcome on. You'll watch it come to life, schist by schist, board by board, with a builder you trust.

Step 05
Hand over
The keys, the documents, the guarantee, and a home finished to the standard the mountains hold us to. Then we stay reachable, because a Matthew Lucas home is looked after for life.

Asked often
How long does a build like this take?
Most of our architectural homes run 12 to 20 months on site, depending on scale, site access and winter. We give you a real programme before we start and keep it honest the whole way through.
Can you build on steep or schist-heavy sites?
That's most of what we do. Queenstown sections are rarely flat: rock, retaining and alpine weather are part of our normal, not a surcharge surprise.
Do you work with our architect, or bring your own?
Either. We build alongside some of the region's best architects, and if you're starting from scratch we'll help you find the right fit for your site and your brief.
We live overseas. Can we build with you remotely?
Yes. A good share of our clients build from Auckland, Australia or further. You get one point of contact, regular photo and video updates, and decisions organised around your time zone.
